A Tribute to Gene Hackman

Will Munny & Little Bill

A tribute, of sorts, to Gene Hackman

For this post, I was working on a little piece of writing I had on the random thoughts that came into my head one sleepless night. The illustration above was to accompany said bit of tripe. Anyway, on that night my brain had somehow found its way to my favorite Clint movie, which I decided was Unforgiven, and in my quest for sleep I had been summarizing the plot, which included, of course the final gunfight between Clint's Will Munny and Gene Hackman's Little Bill Daggett and crew.

The piece was long and not really very inspiring, but in the middle of a discourse on Hackman and his age, the news of his death came across the internet.

And so I scrapped that thing as my next post. You get this instead.

Yeah, the post title says it's a tribute to Hackman, but the illo is Clint. My bad. The art was done before the news came in.

Here's to Gene Hackman, his wife, and his dog. Thanks for some great movies and an always-inspired performance in each one. I hope no foul play was involved in the deaths of the Hackman folks.

Peace to all, and raise a glass to Popeye Doyle.

(note: True to my word I am going to steer clear of any political commentary, but I can't help but shed a tear for our country in the aftermath of Drumpf and Vance ganging up on Zelenskyy in a pre-planned and scripted ambush last Friday. Abominable display.)
