The 40th U.S. President

Ronald Wilson Reagan

Born: February 6, 1911

Died: June 5, 2004

Term in Office: 1981-1989

Contrary to a popular Hollywood legend, Ronald Reagan was never considered for the role of Rick in Casablanca. That part had always been intended for Humphrey Bogart. But Ronnie had some good movie roles, proving he wasn't just a supporting actor in B-movies; Dark Victory, Knute Rockne (where the "win one for the Gipper" line came from), and King's Row being the most notable.

When he decided to run for California governor, Jack Warner, of Warner Bros. fame, said (and I'm paraphrasing here), "Reagan for governor? No... Jimmy Stewart for governor; Ronald Reagan for his best friend."

This guy was pretty popular when he was President and is pretty much deified by the Republican Party. The Iran-Contra scandal was a black eye on his presidency, and adoring wife Nancy liked to bring her astrologer into the White House for advice, the extent of which may be scarier than we'd like to know.

Peace to all, and why don't you throw on an old movie.
