Biden Plays the GOP Like a Fiddle
(the highlight of the
2023 State of the Union speech)
Yeah, I know, good ol' Joe is not seeing the best of approval ratings these days, and a lot of progressives wanted to hear more from him last night in his State of the Union Speech... more on immigration in particular.
And there are things that bother me with some of his decisions... and one in-particular for me was his fist bump with the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, along with a downplaying of said prince's role in the murder and dismemberment of Washington Post reporter Jamal Khashoggi. This kowtowing to Saudi Arabia, of course, is not new behavior for any of the last 70 years worth of U.S. Presidents. Must have something to do with one thing; "oil that is, black gold, Texas tea," to quote the lyric from the Beverly Hillbillies theme song.
And there's a lot of rumbling going on in Democrats' circles about Grandpa Joe's age, in regard to his run for the Oval Office again in 2024. Yeah, 82 (in 2024) is getting up there. Makes the guy 86 at the end of a second term. But, really, who's waiting in the wings to take up the mantle of the Democratic candidate, if not Joe?
Enough of those problems. I want to take time to give this seasoned (well-seasoned) politician kudos for baiting the Republicans last night on the third-rail subjects of Medicare and Social Security. In the middle of their heckling of him as a "liar," he obtained "unanimity" on keeping hands off those two entities in any future budget discussions.
Well played, Grandpa Joe.
Peace to everyone, and keep putting in for your Social Security... it's gonna need all the help it can get.
