Ida Lewis
Born February 25, 1842
Should have posted this on this woman's birthday yesterday. Got busy with stuff, and, well yada, yada, yada.
Anyway, Ida made a name for herself in the 19th century as a lighthouse keeper in Newport, Rhode Island. Officially, she saved 18 souls while unofficial reports put the number closer to 36. Whichever number you choose to believe, her first save came when she was only 12.
Go to this link for a site that describes the person who was once known as 'the bravest woman in America.'
So here's a belated happy birthday to a singular human being.
Peace to all, and keep the light shining.
