Zeynab Mousavi, aka Empress Kuzcoo
Zeynab Mousavi is a standup comedienne who has been plying her trade in Iran for a number of years and is the target of threats against her life for her cutting edge comedy and barbs at the country's leadership. She has been removed from Instagram, where her alter ego, Empress Kuzcoo, had enjoyed a following of upwards of a million viewers.
Mousavi has also endured 22 days in solitary, hard punishment for anyone but especially for a comic used to performing before an audience. She reportedly has been sentenced to two years in prison, but I had been under the impression her trial was still upcoming. My research is not clear. Or maybe I'm just not clear.
I first learned of her through Marc Maron's WTF podcast (https://www.wtfpod.com/) this past week. I have been woefully lax in following the protests in Iran, and that's unforgivable. We all need to stay aware of events there, and if opportunity presents itself spread the word to others about atrocities in that country.
